The 12th International Conference on Sustainable Solid Waste Management was held in Paphos, Cyprus, from June 25 to 28, 2025, athering experts, researchers, and stakeholders from around the world to discuss innovative approaches to waste management, circular economy, and sustainable fuels.
Thanks to colleague Eva Nanaki of Helleniq Energy, COCPIT participated in this initiative. Her insightful presentation shed light on the market potential, opportunities, and challenges of microalgae-based sustainable aviation fuels (SAF) within the COCPIT project, coordinated by IMT Atlantique. This innovative work is paving the way for the decarbonization of the aviation sector – one of the most difficult to abate in terms of greenhouse gas emissions, and the wider adoption of advanced biofuels in Europe.

COCPIT’s participation at the conference marks another important step in raising awareness and fostering collaboration around sustainable aviation fuels and the future of green mobility in Europe.
